The Bible teaches according to 1 Timothy 6:10
“10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (NIV)”
God knows we need money to live – and this teaching was instructed to Timothy and followers of Jesus Christ – not only as disciples but to conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of God. Case in point is that most people will say making money at all cost is worth it, while the truth of the matter is how you get there, how you are steward of these resources is a good litmus test of who you are.
The question of who you are is not only based on your thoughts, actions, the sins that are struggled with, the different affinities and differences in preferences, it also is based on who you are following, and who or what is the motivation for your life.
If you are not content and keep striving for more for the sake of striving, when does the striving stop? I speak about for folks that are doing well – are they strong arming and manipulating their way there, are they considerate and take care of the plight of those around them as they progress, or do they roll in like a bull in a china shop and go crazy. There are those that have money/mammon their god – and in truth when we stand in judgment and the soul is eternal – there are results from the actions we have made in this life. Hell is a real place – eternal torment meant for fallen angels is also for those that have fallen for the teachings that would take them away from God – and the reality the moral law we are flawed in since the beginning, in our present life, would lead us to Jesus death and resurrection for us, and the power of the Holy Spirit to say ‘Yes’ to God and ‘No’ to the world and everything that will perish.
A question that should be considered is ‘If I am living for eternity, how does my life, my actions, management of finances reflect this belief/faith/hope that I have? Do I truly love God – or is it a show I put up? God knows everything – so I need to know this about myself – where I am in regards to heart and love and action, and where I need to be.’
Stepping on people to get ahead is not the right way at all – when a business takes small shops and has folks in other countries produce them, and shut down the original owners of the business – is this right?
For politicians in all parties, is it right to favor the rich, poor, or the folks that paid you, versus taking care of the people of your community that you have a responsibility for? That is why the budgets, funding, plans and initiatives are not going to where they are supposed too – people are paid for their allegiance – when you run in public office – it was meant to serve God and love people – serving people – all of them – from the least to the greatest – without favoritism – this is a Biblical standard that has been in the Bible – and though the world may bash it – this is the form of salt that people of God have sustained the world from having people destroy themselves. God has sent his Son to save – but we must repent – turn away from our lust, greed, selfishness, and turn t God. God sent his only Son to the world so that we would no perish, but we have an opportunity at everlasting life – God does not discriminate. One you turn, he promises the Holy Spirit to give strength, passion and affirmation that God will not forsake you – but he burns in our hearts to stand in a time when people are led by emotions, grab pills and drugs to control their emotions, to the detriment of being a slave to it. If you think of it money/currency was made to barter to trade – but not meant as an object of worship – but a means for transactions – and people blindly are led to believe this solves their problems – but in reality perhaps being a person, a man, a woman, a father, a mother, a neighbor, a friend are the most important attributes versus being a person obsessed with things that matter little over time, and the people and relationships of life are the things that matter when our days are over here.
